Cotton Sheets by Huggies!

I remember laughing when I was handed a leaflet telling me that I needed to pack cotton wool and a tub to hold water in my hospital bag, were they so out of date that they’d not heard of wet wipes? It was only when I pointed this out to my midwife that she explained the benefits of cotton wool and water! Anyone who has had a newborn baby will know that handling them is often a struggle (particularly if it is your first!) without struggling to hold cotton wool and a tub of water! Huggies have come up with an ingenious product, which combines the ease of a wet wipe with the delicacy of cotton wool Huggies Cotton Sheets!

Well, both my boys are passed the newborn stage, but Elvis suffers from quite sensitive skin, so I was quite keen to see how we got on! The sheets come in a handy roll, they are easy to handle and you can pull one sheet from the roll even one handed! The sheets are embossed with little bears and paw prints – very cute! As soon as you touch a sheet you become aware how incredibly soft they are, the size of a wet wipe but er..dry! With a little water they effectively cleaned up after a dirty nappy incident, no fear of the sheet breaking and in fact I was impressed with how effectively it absorbed.

Today I found myself using them dry to clean Elvis’ face up after lunch, he was quite happy to let his face be wiped so it obviously felt very soft against his face! Shh, don’t tell anyone but I also used a sheet to take my make up off last night! Would I recommend them? Yes! Most definitely! I think we’ll be using them in conjunction with wet wipes, and if we decide to add another Goriami to the family at some point I’d definitely use the cotton sheets for the newborn days!

Thanks to Huggies for sending us some Cotton Sheets to sample!

Toddler biting..Ow! Elvis Bit me!

Boo and Elvis have become quite fond of each other, and have started to have a cuddle mid-morning in between the daily squabbles of who was playing with which car first. Both Elvis and Boo are incredibly strong willed, and while Elvis is still much smaller than Boo, he isn’t afraid to argue with Boo if he believes he has more right to a argue I do of course mean with a series of shouts and angry waving of arms! But it mostly seems to end in a good natured cuddle and they carry on playing.

Yesterday, they were unusually quiet, sat cuddled on the floor while watching a cartoon Elvis gave Boo a kiss and wrapped his arms tightly around Boo – all seemed blissful. Suddenly Boo let out an ear piercing scream, Elvis had given him a nibble and left quite a nasty bruise. Trying to explain to Boo that it wasn’t meant to hurt him, Elvis had merely got carried away with his new teeth hasn’t been a fun exercise. Boo only bit when he was having tantrums, and got told off very firmly on more than one occasion, so he knows biting is naughty. Elvis I spoke to and said he mustn’t bite, but even though I spoke in our ‘firm’ tone, he still just grinned and carried on happily, I wonder how many more friendly nibbles Elvis will try to share over the next months?

I thought it’d be easy to deal with problems second time around, having experienced a toddler once, but in fact, they are new problems! And I never expected that the little one would be hurting the big one! I wonder what new challenges the boys will present me with today!

Wonderful Windermere..

We Goriami’s like an adventure, whenever we get a day with all of us together we like to get out, whether it be clambering through the woodland or paddling at the seaside, we’re always out and about somewhere! Last week, we managed a short break away, this is the first of I hope many in 2012!
The last time I visited Windermere with Mr G, I was 11weeks pregnant with Boo. I remember feeling absolutely exhausted all the time, and feeling constantly hungry but terribly nauseous! We walked down from the near the station to the Lake at Bowness, and jumped on a boat to have a romantic lunch at ended up being a drink and something strange from the menu..hey I was pregnant! Of course, when we got back to Bowness, we had to walk that long walk back to Windermere..and it is up hill all the way. I wasn’t terribly fit anyway, but I can remember just wanting to lay down on the pavement and cry!

All Rights Reserved Goriami Family 2012

Returning to Windermere this time with our two boys in tow, Mr G and I decided that we’d not inflict the walk on them, and instead we laughed at how and why we had decided to walk it while I was pregnant! We took them on the same boat journey we’d taken, but instead of attempting a romantic meal, we settled for hot chocolate and shortbread. We’d arrived in sunshine marred only by the exceptionally strong winds, however the weather turned and rapidly we were sheltering from heavy hail! Boo was delighted by the hail, I’m not sure he’d ever seen it before? He found the dark clouds hovering mysteriously above us exciting and as the tiny white balls of hail pelted against the pavement he squealed with delight! I had to stop myself from giggling as some young Japanese tourists crouched down on the pavement to take photos and tentatively touched the little icy balls!

Dramatic View from the shelter!

To be honest, Elvis was too little to care much about anything, and with the exception of getting excited when he ate his toast, he slept for most of our visit, wrapped up cosy in his snow suit I can’t say I blamed him! The wind was icy cold, and I was glad that I had ignored Boo’s demands to leave his hat in the car, as he was delighted to pull it down over his ears when we got off the boat! I almost feel you need to see Windermere in winter to really appreciate how immense and wonderful it really is without the lush green background of spring or summer.

I vow to get fit in 2012 so I can WOW in The Davina for Next Collection!

I was just a little excited to read about Davina McCall launching a new fitness range with Next. I’m a great fan of Davina, there is something about her that makes you instantly feel you could take her for a coffee and tell her about the disaster you had while out shopping when your 3 year old decided to open the changing room curtain to the world..Yes..that was my bottom exposed to the entire shop as I tried desperately to wriggle into a pair of size 14 trousers which were not going beyond my knees.

After having two children, I have to confess I’ve really forgotten what real exercise is all about unless you can count chasing behind rampaging toddlers? Once upon a time I was a fitness fanatic and I used to love the adrenaline high I’d feel after a good run. I’m determined that 2012 will be my year to not only battle the bulge but also rid myself of wibbly wobbly bits once and for all, I want to prove to myself that I have got the discipline – and organisational ability – to get up each morning bursting with energy and with the knowledge that when I get married (hopefully at the start of 2013) I will look and feel spectacular!

I love the look of the trainers, they look trendy while offer the latest technology to support your joints while you work out, something I’d love to try out while I’m out running over the next few months!

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that I’m quite tall, and I have to be honest and say that most sportswear bottoms which are flattering to my curves are a little to low and reveal rather too much when I’m exercising, I like the look of these:

They look slightly higher waisted, and with a flattering trim to fool you all into thinking that I do actually have slim thighs..In seriousness, I think they’d look great and can’t wait to venture into Next to locate a pair! I wonder if they’ll do that bulgy knees thing after I’ve done a session on a cross trainer? I’d love the chance to try these out, and would definitely be giving them rigorous testing should I get the opportunity!

I always struggle to find pretty post gym shoes, but Davina at Next even covers that with these pretty pumps:

How cute are they? I have to confess I think I’d wear them all the time!! Certainly an incentive to get out and show them off! They also contain clever technology which helps reduce stress on your joints – so not just a pretty pair of shoes!

Have you met Olly the Little White Van yet?

We were pleased to receive a DVD of Olly the Little White Van to review! As soon as we put the DVD on, we became very fond of Olly and his friends! The theme tune is very catchy and after one episode I was singing the tune and after a second one Boo was joining me!
The cartoon is very colourful, with a vehicle to suit every child, I feared that perhaps ‘The little White Van’ might not be such a favourite, so I was delighted with the array of other vehicle friends he has and I think Boo’s favourite was Olly’s best friend Bazza!

The episodes are short so they really do hold a pre-schoolers attention, ideal if you want 5 minutes recovery time! Olly is voiced by Justin Fletcher who does a great job of giving Olly a really likable nature! Olly is always trying to help his friends out, and it really does teach about being kind and helping your friends! Check out the Olly the Little White Van site for plenty of activities to keep your little ones busy this Christmas, we’re going to be making some Christmas cards this afternoon! Remember you can catch up with Olly on CITV at 9.45am and 1pm Weekdays!
