October Half Term Plans

I’m always look forwards to half-term, as it’s a great excuse for family time! We like travelling during October Half-term, but this year we’ve decided to stay at home. We’re trying to save money, so we’re hoping for a fun week with a minimal spend!

Get Creative

Crafting is one of my go to activities when we’re having half-term at home! Whether we’re junk modelling, or trying out a new crafting skill it’s a great way to keep everyone busy for the day! Sometimes I struggle with inspiration, but there are loads of kids craft ideas over on Fun Crafts For Kids so I use that as a source for ideas!

Get Outdoors

Heading outside! Whether to your local park, the woods or the beach there is so much fun to be had in wide open spaces! Last year we had an autumn trip to the beach and it was great fun. Pack up a picnic, as it tends to be the food and drink which add up on a day out! The weather can sometimes ruin a picnic, but you could have an “in car picnic” or find somewhere to shelter from the weather while you eat!

Cooking fun

Cooking with children is a great way to encourage them to try new foods. During holidays I like to involve the children in cooking as much as I can. This half term will be no exception! There will be baking as it keeps them busy, and they love eating what they’ve baked while watching a film in the afternoon! Yes, we love a film afternoon! I’ve spotted these fabulous Pumpkin Granola Mummies which we’ll definitely be trying!

Check out what’s on!

I’ve learnt over the years to always check the local paper for Halloween events. In previous years we’ve spotted some great events this way! Often low cost, and a little different too.  Remember, there are also half term National Trust events happening, which could be worth checking out if you have a National trust membership. I think we may take one out again as we always end up using it alot during school holidays!
