I’m planning a bit of a redesign of our kitchen. It’s a lovely space, but there are some areas which need a little TLC. We spend a lot of time in our kitchen, it is the hub of our home! So, we need it to be a really lovely space. I thought I’d share the ways in which I go about redesigning our living space, as sometimes it is hard to know where to begin!
Find the good points
I like to draw a plan of the space I’m working with. Then I will mark any things about the room I really like. So for example, we have a lovely alcove in our kitchen – although it is currently a wasted space! But, I like to mark it as “what can I do with that?” point. Sometimes it is really easy to just hate the entire space, and then you can miss good features!
Work with what you’ve got!
Using the list of good points you’ve created about the room. Work with those to create your theme for the room. Our kitchen has a real country kitchen feel to it, and so I need to make sure I don’t go for too modern a design for other features. If you’ve got a feature built in – work with it!
Attention to detail…
This is one of the most important aspects of redesigning any room! I never cease to be amazed by how many people make a beautiful room, and miss little details which would have made the room perfect! Whether it’s ensuring you choose the right architrave, or the perfect door knobs – the little things really do make the difference! It really is the small details which make a room perfect!
